Matias Almeyda is not done assembling his roster ahead of his inaugural season with the San Jose Earthquakes.
The Quakes are set to sign Mexican defender Benjamin Galindo Jr., sources with knowledge of the situation have told Quakes Epicenter.
Galindo Jr., 19, was recently cut by Chivas, where he spent the majority of his four years playing for the academy side before making his professional debut against Veracruz last April.
The center back will join his father, ex-Mexican international Benjamin Galindo, who will serve as an assistant coach for ‘El Pelado’. ESPN Deportes were the first to report ‘El Maestrito’s’ arrival to the Black-and-Blue.
One of the sources informed Quakes Epicenter that the plan is for Galindo Jr. to feature in the USL with affiliate Reno 1868 FC. Currently, the Quakes have all of their eight international slots occupied and re-signed Panamanian international center back Harold Cummings.
In total, Galindo Jr. made six appearances with Chivas — two in Liga MX and four in Copa MX, Mexico’s domestic cup competition.
