San Jose Earthquakes’ fullback Nick Lima is expected to join Greg Berhalter’s first U.S. men’s national team January training camp, a source with knowledge of the situation told Quakes Epicenter.
Lima, 24, is coming off his first complete MLS season, starting and playing in all 34 games, the only Quakes player to do it in 2018. Along the way, the Castro Valley native added a pair of goals and assists.
Starting in Chula Vista, California on Jan. 7, the training camp will culminate with games against Panama (Glendale, Arizona) on Jan. 27 and Costa Rica (San Jose, California) on Feb. 2, respectively.
Earlier this year, the Homegrown defender was among the 30 players called up to the 2018 January camp by then interim coach Dave Sarachan. Despite the nod, Lima was unable to make his U.S. national team debut, remaining on the bench for the entire 90 minutes.
Lima, who has been one of the Black-and-Blue’s few bright spots since joining in 2017, recently trained with Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin.
