Tommy Thompson Tallies Two Assists On Loan With Sacramento Republic FC

Earthquakes midfielder Tommy Thompson was on loan with USL side Sacramento Republic FC last Saturday in their 4-3 victory against Saint Louis FC. The 20 year old Northern California native is the Earthquakes’ first and only homegrown player, and has made 10 appearances totaling 435 minutes for the Earthquakes this year.

Thompson totaled two assists, and stood out in the Republic’s 4-3 win in Saint Louis. The first goal, which came in the fifth minute, was scored by former Earthquake JJ Koval. Thompson successfully took on and dribbled past a defender on the right side, then floated a ball into space in the six yard box, where Koval headed it in.

Thompson’s second assist was incredibly similar to his first. The main difference was that it happened in the second half and on the opposite end of the pitch, and that the goal scorer was former San Jose Earthquakes trials Cameron Iwasa. This goal ended up being the game winning goal.
