Real Sociedad Midfielder Esteban Granero On 2-1 Loss At Avaya Stadium

On how he felt after the match

You never feel happy when you lose, but we enjoyed the game. We had a great atmosphere here in San Jose. The supporters were very good. The supporters were very good. We control of the ball for a long time in the game, but they put the ball in the net two times, and we only did it once. But anyway, never happy when you lose, but we did enjoy the game. After a long trip you are never 100 percent fit, but I think this is a very good experience for us to compete against an American team. They have different sorts of players, different way to consider football, soccer. As I said it was a good experience, and hopefully we will repeat it someday.

On how he felt Real Sociedad’s young players did in the match

This kind of games are good for them. They need this kind of games to prove themselves, to show the manager that they want to be in the first team. I think they did good. Real Sociedad have a very good academy, one of the best in Spain, one of the best in Europe. They are doing great things, many of the players of our team comes from the academy. I think they are doing a very good job, they are training hard, and probably many of them will be in the first team in the following years.

On American soccer

Sure, I think you are growing faster. Investing not only in players, but in young players, education. I think you are doing a great job. Hopefully, MLS will be one of the greatest leagues in the world in a few years. You can see, the players have good teams and you are investing in education. This is the key point. So, I think America, the United States has a great potential for sports, and soccer is growing faster. So maybe in a few years, we will be very scared with American soccer.

On the level of play in the match

Sure, we expected a tough game, and we lost. I have to say the level was very good for them. I think they put a little bit more passion than us, but they compete. American teams, they compete. I have played for Real Madrid here, many games against MLS teams and every [one] of them competes very hard. There is no friendly games for us, and this is good. Hopefully we will be playing another time against the Earthquakes, and we will have our revenge.

On Strengths and Weakness of MLS, especially in regards to tactics

[In Spanish, translated]

More than tactical training I think, well, tactically it is a well-formed team. I think they are hard workers, and without particular tactical deficiencies. It is a normal team in that aspect. I think there are teams, so much like the Earthquakes, like other teams that have chances to play against very competitive teams. I think [they have] the necessary spirit, North Americans, and have a very strong competitiveness. From their training, they are growing in all sports and they are very competitive teams, having the force and ability to be very strong teams.
