4/2 Regular Season: SJ Earthquakes vs. DC United Pre Match Scouting Report

San Jose Notes and Injuries

Form — W-W-L (6 points, 5th place in Western Conference)

  • Last Week — Before the international break, the Quakes were reduced to 10 men just before halftime and the LA Galaxy pulled off a 3-1 win, with all goals coming after the break. Full highlights here.

  • San Jose was busy over the international break, with Simon Dawkins, Fatai Alashe, Anibal Godoy, and Alberto Quintero all receiving minutes for their respective national teams.
  • Godoy picked up an injury in Panama’s 1-0 win against Haiti, but reports say it is not serious and will miss three weeks.
  • Tommy Thompson and Adam Jahn both played for Sacramento Republic last weekend, but are back with the Quakes and available for selection.
  • Dawkins is suspended for his red card against the Galaxy.
  • Clarence Goodson is still out with back tightness after sitting out the match against LA, but Shaun Francis is back in training and will be available for Saturday.

DC United Notes and Injuries

Form — L-D-D-L (2 points, 9th place in Eastern Conference)

  • Last Week — United were one of six teams to not observe the international break, and were roundly beaten at home in a 3-0 loss to FC Dallas.

  • Steve Birnbaum played 90 minutes in the USMNT’s 4-0 win against Guatemala.
  • Marcelo Sarvas is suspended for collecting a red card against FC Dallas.

Predicted Starting Lineup

Andres Imperiale should once again get the start at center back if Goodson is indeed not fit. Francis will slide back into the left back role if he is ready to go, possibly bringing an end to the Kip Colvey era. The midfield is more of a mystery with Dawkins and Godoy out, both of whom have started all three games this season. Matías Pérez García and Shea Salinas seem to be the most likely replacements.
