8/2 Regular Season SJ Earthquakes vs. Portland Timbers Player Ratings
Bingham – 7 – Distributed well, and positioned himself perfectly for several easy saves and one brilliant stop in the second half.
Wynne – 5 – Did little in the first half, and had a few shaky moments defensively in the second.
Bernardez – 7 – Tough as nails in the back, and read the game very well. Did as much as he could to push for a game-winner in the final minutes as well.
Stewart – 5 – Clearly playing out of position in the center of the defense, and looked less than convincing. Deserved his yellow for an elbow late in the game.
Francis – 4 – Recklessly earned an early yellow card, and recklessly gave away the penalty. Did support the attack in the opening half.
Alashe – 6 – Stuck to Diego Valeri like glue and shut down the Argentine. Cycled possession well when needed, although the Quakes generally pushed forward quickly.
Salinas – 6 – Attacked very well down the left in the first half as the Quakes targeted Portland right back Alves Powell, but did have a few bad giveaways.
Wondolowski – 5 – A quiet game from the captain. Perhaps covered too much ground, as he did not seem to be available to finish moves when the Quakes worked the ball into dangerous areas.
Pérez García – 7 – A good game from the Quakes talisman, but occasionally held onto the ball too long and was unable to provide a final ball.
Cato – 6 – An absolute pest defensively, contributing greatly to Portland’s possession problems in the first half. Was not able to give as much to the attack, despite some clever dribbling.
Amarikwa – 6 – Had a difficult time being a target man, and couldn’t win much of anything in the air. Looked dangerous on the ball, but lacked a final product and disappeared in the final minutes as the Quakes went more direct.
Nyassi – 6 – Looked very confident after entering in the 64th minute, and was everything the Quakes could have hoped for on the wing as they tried to find a goal in the closing stages. Did commit a bad step that almost led to a Timbers goal.
Pelosi – N/A – Wasn’t given enough time to establish himself after coming on in the 78th minute.
Thompson – N/A – Did little of note after entering in the 82nd minute.
